When: Monthly on Mondays 15:30-17:00
Venue: St Mark's (Wallis Room)

This Book Group meets monthly during term time on a Monday afternoon at St Mark’s Church Hall and focuses on members' views of a particular chosen book.  Our choices are selected by members voting from a book list which has been drawn up from a particular genre, also suggested by group members.  Our most recent books include The Sparsholt Affair (Alan Hollinghurst), Transcription (Kate Atkinson), Catcher in the Rye (J D Salinger), and Butter (Asako Yuzuki).   Our current book is The Innocent (Ian McEwan).

We are a lively, sociable group of around 20 book-loving members.  Numbers are held at that level to allow for reasonable discussion at our meetings.  Time and again the same comment is made: 'I wouldn't have chosen this particular book if it hadn't been a Book Group choice, but I am really glad I did ...'.   This kind of serendipity adds to the value of our group.

Members are responsible for getting their own copies of chosen books (library/on-line/bookshops/Kindle etc.) and our sessions usually begin with some biographical background information about the author including other books they may have written.  We then discuss the book chosen.  Group members not able to make a particular meeting usually submit an email review.
