u3a Summer Quiz

Event type: Social
Date: 27th June 2026
Time: 19:00
Venue: St Mark's (Hall)
Organiser:
Cost: £5

This will be held on 27th June in the Main Hall at St Mark’s Church Hall, commencing promptly at 19:00 and so we would ask teams to arrive from 18:45 onwards.  Earlier arrivals may get roped into helping with the setting up.

I would remind members that car parking around St Mark's can be challenging.  If you park in a road, please make sure you don't block any driveways: we can do without getting complaints.

As in previous quiz evenings, the number of people in a team will be restricted to a maximum of six with an entry fee of £5.00 per person.  A team does not need to have a full quota of six people.  We expect there to be a maximum of sixteen teams so entering a team rapidly may prove necessary.

We intend to have cash prizes for the teams finishing in the three podium positions.

We will also be holding a raffle with the proceeds being again given to Sarcoma UK, in memory of Andy Nelson, our former much-missed Committee Secretary and enthusiastic quizzer, who sadly died from this horrible, aggressive form of cancer.

Previous quizzes have, in most cases, included teams from specific activity groups and I am contacting Group Leaders separately requesting them to try to organise teams should they (or their group) so wish.  Nevertheless, if as an individual member you cannot find a group-based team to join, then I would ask that you contact me (rather than Paul Banner) directly and I will try to add you into a team that is not up to its full complement (or even form you into your own team, perhaps called “Sundries”.)

As usual, drinks will be on a Bring-Your-Own (“BYO”) basis, but we expect to be able to offer tea and coffee (and water!).  In addition, any crisps, nibbles, nuts, quiches, canapés, smoked salmon sandwiches, smoked duck profiteroles or lobster-stuffed avocados, will also be BYO items.
